JOHN 4:16-18
Sex here is referred to sexual intercourse between a male and female.
Marriage is the making of husband and wife.
Sex is one of the most powerful phenomenon on the material world. It bonds a man and woman in an ecstasy of emotions and lovely memories. However, it has also wrecked powerful men and even angels.
Creation of Sex
God created every part and component of the human body for its specific purpose. Alongside the other organs, he made the sexual organs. Comfortably positioned and given a special hormone to coordinate its activities and trigger off the reproduction process. All these would not have been made without a purpose. Everything were made for man’s use. Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion (Gen. 1:28).
God would not commission a sin as religion used the “original sin” dogma to vilified sex. Everything, process, phenomenon etc were made by God for the benefit of man. In the beginning, all was good. Therefore, it is only the misuse and abuse that is observed and termed evil. The abuse of sex is what we call immorality, fornication and adultery. Sex was created to be good, its abuse is evil.
The extent of its Abuse
Sex was made for the fulfillment of the love between a man and his wife which culminate in procreation and the furthering of its specie. Therefore, any other use of it is evil.
This joining of a man and woman during sex is the original marriage, this union makes them one. The scriptures use the words “go in unto”, “cleave to”, “took” to describe the act of sexual intercourse or joining of man and woman during sex.
Deut. 21:13
thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife
Gen. 38:2,3
he took her, and went in unto her
Matt. 19:5
and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh
Jn 4:18
for thou hast had five husbands
Gen. 24:67
and took Rebekah, and she became his wife
In the Hebrew setting, the act of sex is a subjection to the authority of the man. Wherein, such authority naturally is vested on a father over his children, therefore shall there be a ceremony of witnesses to hand over that authority from the father to the husband. This authority carries the responsibility to provide, protect and procreate.
Herein, if a man takes advantage of a woman without guaranteeing her provision and protection, or lie with a woman that has already been guaranteed (belongs) to another man. Such an act is wickedness and immoral.
The Sin of Sex - Unworthy Union
Having sex entails the burden of being entwined in one body and full responsibility of guaranteeing provision, protection and procreation to your partner. And the abuse of any of this is sin and wickedness in the sight of the Almighty.
Understand that whosoever you have sex with is your husband or wife, be it that “unknown” prostitute or the boy or girl next door. You are in union. Heaven knows how many times you have been married and the question Christ ask the Samaritan woman would be repeated for you.
Imagine you as a man, joining your body with a body that had already been joined with multiple bodies. God forbid. "Or know ye not that he that is joined to a harlot is one body?" 1 Cor. 6:16. Spiritually, you are one.
Having sex is granting someone the privilege to be one with you. That privilege should not be given to just anyone who would abuse it by sharing that privilege with another. It should be reserved for that person that you can proudly say “we are one” before God and man.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made, Ps. 139:14. You should not make that wonderful body one in union with just anyone.
Fighting Temptations
When it comes to sexual sin, the scripture do not recommend to stand and fight, it says Flee, 1 Cor. 6:18, 2 Tim. 2:22. Do not think you can withstand or overcome, remove yourself from the situation or environment. If it could bring to damnation angels from on high and supposedly men of God, you stand no chance.
Shaking the Table - One Man, One Wife?
It has been established in the scripture that a man with means can take another woman as long as he can guarantee the provision and protection of all within his household.
This may sound contrary to what is taught in the church about one man – one wife or prioritizing the blessing of the marriage over consummation or parental blessing. This is a classic example of church control against scriptural basis.
The feminist notion is an abuse of divine order; God – Man – Woman. “for the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church” Eph. 5:23, 1 Cor 11:3. The woman was created for man and man was created for God. Therefore throughout the scripture, emphasis is made on punishment for a woman having sexual relations outside her marriage. No where is it mention about a man being punished for having another wife. The only punishments prescribe for man in abusing sex and marriage are
(i) denial of provision to the wife and family – 1Tim. 5:8
(ii) denial of protection of the wife and family – Mal 2:16,
(iii) denial of procreation – Gen 38:10.
(iv) rape – Deut. 22:25,
(v) being with another man’s wife or betrothed – Deut. 22:22,23
Uncomfortable as it may seems, the man and the woman were not created equal 1 Cor. 11:9, Gen. 2:18. Any interpretation in pretense to equality is unscriptural.
